The point of an SMT indicator is not to stare at it. With alerts set, TradingView tells you the moment a divergence forms, on your phone, by email or through a webhook, so you can step away from the screen between setups.
Alerts are part of The SMT Detector Pro. The free version draws the same divergences on the chart but has no alert conditions. See Free vs Pro.
The alerts available
The SMT Detector Pro adds nine alert conditions to TradingView's alert dialog:
| Alert | Fires when |
|---|---|
| Bullish SMT Divergence | A bullish SMT forms on any enabled cycle |
| Bearish SMT Divergence | A bearish SMT forms on any enabled cycle |
| 90min Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the 90-minute cycle |
| Session Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Session cycle |
| Daily Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Daily cycle |
| Weekly Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Weekly cycle |
| Monthly Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Monthly cycle |
| Quarterly Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Quarterly cycle |
| Yearly Cycle SMT | An SMT forms on the Yearly cycle |
Each alert fires once when a new signal appears, not on every bar while it stays on the chart. The 3, 10 and 30-minute cycles are covered by the Bullish and Bearish alerts.
Set an alert, step by step
- Open the chart you want to watch, for example
NQ1!, with The SMT Detector Pro added. - Open the alert dialog: the clock icon in the right toolbar, or Alt + A (Option + A on Mac).
- Under Condition, choose The SMT Detector, then pick one of the alerts above.
- Under Trigger, choose Once Per Bar to hear about a divergence as soon as it forms, or Once Per Bar Close if you only want it after the bar closes.
- Under Notifications, tick how you want to be told: app push, email, sound or webhook.
- Give it a name you will recognise, such as "NQ 90m SMT", and press Create.
Which alerts to start with
- Intraday futures traders: 90min Cycle SMT and Session Cycle SMT during the kill zones. They fire far less often than the all-cycle alerts and line up with the windows in our kill zones guide.
- Swing traders: Daily and Weekly Cycle SMT, so a higher-timeframe divergence never slips past you.
- Scalpers: Bullish or Bearish SMT Divergence, filtered by direction to match your bias for the day.
Things to know
- An alert belongs to one chart symbol. Set it on each market you trade.
- How many alerts you can keep running depends on your TradingView plan.
- If you change the indicator's settings, recreate the alert so it uses the new settings.
- For automation, the webhook option sends the alert message to a URL of your choice.
